This article demonstrates how to create custom user and company attributes for your Kano Store so that you can collect and attribute additional data points to your customers, such as:
Configuring Student Numbers
- On the Kano Store admin panel, navigate to Stores > Configuration.
- Using the left-hand panel, expand the Lambda section and click Customer.
- Expand the Student Number section, and configure the following settings:
- Student Number Label
- Auto-generate number for new accounts (Yes/No)
- Format (Letters/numbers)
- Maximum and minimum student number length
- Ability for customer to edit their own student number
- Allow customers to log in with student number
- If student number is visible on the customer's account page (Yes/No).
- Once you are complete, click Save Config.
Configuring Social Insurance Numbers
- On the Kano Store admin panel, navigate to Stores > Configuration.
- Using the left-hand panel, expand the Lambda section and click Customer.
- Expand the Social Number section, and configure the following settings.
- Select whether or not SINs are Enabled on Customer Accounts.
- Enter an appropriate Store Label for the SIN field.

Select whether or not SINs are Validated against a SIN algorithm.
- Select whether or not SINs are Enabled on create account.

Select whether or not messages are Enabled on account information.
- Select whether or not CRA exports are Enabled.

Enter the CRA Filer Account Number into the corresponding field.
- Once you are complete, click Save Config.
Creating Custom Fields
- On the Kano Store admin panel, navigate to Customers>Custom Attributes.
- Click Add New Custom Attribute.
- Select whether or not the customer field applies to Customers or Companies using the corresponding drop-down menu.
- Enter a Title in the corresponding field.

Select an appropriate field Type from the drop-down menu.
- Select whether or not the field is Required.

Select where the field is Visible on the site.
- In the Advanced Attribute Properties section, enter a corresponding Code for your custom field. These codes will be used for necessary CSV files, and thus must consist only of lowercase letters and underscores.
- If the Drop-down menu field type is selected, enter the different choices, separated by commas, into the Value field.

If necessary, enter a short and descriptive Help text that describes the purpose or requirements of the field. This text will appear once users hover over the help icon.
- Select whether or not this field value is unique or not.
- Select where custom fields are visible-editable:
- Visible on Checkout
- Customer My Account
- Customer Account Create
- Customer Account Edit
- Select if you would like the custom field(s) to be added to the customer grid as:
- Used in grid
- Visible in grid
- Filterable in grid
- Once you are complete, click Save Custom Attribute.
